Junior Research Fellow (JRF)


The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) in Bangalore is seeking applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF). This role is part of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)-funded project, “Reconstream: Systematic Reconstruction of Long-Term Streamflow Records in Indian Rivers Using Geomorphology-Guided Machine Learning”.


This project aims to establish long-term streamflow records for Indian river basins by integrating hydrological modelling, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, climate change research, and field observations. The successful candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop innovative, science-based strategies for climate-resilient water resource management and support informed decision-making amidst changing climate conditions.

Applicant Qualifications



  • A Master’s degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Geoinformatics, or a closely related field.

  • Preference will be given to candidates holding GATE, NET, or other national-level eligibility qualifications.

  • A strong understanding of hydrological processes, watershed hydrology, and the impacts of climate change on water resources.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or research experience in hydrological modelling, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and climate change.

  • Proficiency in at least one hydrological model (e.g., SWAT, VIC, HEC-HMS, or other conceptual or process-based hydrological models).

  • Experience with geospatial and programming tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, Python, or R.

  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • The selected candidate will be expected to undertake occasional field visits as required.
