About Kamuzu Academy
Kamuzu Academy is a selective, co-educational boarding school in Malawi, serving students aged 11 to 18 years. Often referred to as 'The Eton of Africa,' the academy provides an outstanding academic environment with a broad curriculum, particularly in Classics, set within a beautiful natural environment. Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilisation to students in Years 7 to 11.
- Plan and deliver well-structured, appropriately challenging lessons.
- Monitor, track, and support student progress, focusing on attainment.
- Maintain clear and consistent expectations for behaviour and engagement.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of departmental schemes of work.
- Produce and share high-quality teaching resources to support learning.
- Set and mark prep regularly, adhering to school and departmental expectations.
- Support students with Individual Learning Plans where appropriate.
- Contribute to a broad and balanced curriculum, collaborating with other departments.
- Promote Classical Civilisation at AS and A Level.
- Engage with professional development to improve classroom practice.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including co-curricular programmes.
Skills & Qualifications
- A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to obtain one.
- A degree in Classics or a closely related subject.
- Sound subject knowledge of Latin to IGCSE level and Greek to ICCG level.
- Previous experience teaching Latin, Greek, and/or Classical Civilisation to IGCSE, GCSE, or A Level (desirable).
- Ability to plan and deliver motivating lessons across various ability ranges in a compulsory subject.
- Strong classroom management skills with high expectations for students.
- Highly organised with effective workload management.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a department.
- Clear and professional communication skills.
