About Nthowa Livelihoods

Nthowa Livelihoods (NL) is a registered, youth-led local non-governmental organization in Malawi, dedicated to enhancing rural livelihoods. Our mission is advanced through initiatives in climate-smart agriculture, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, financial inclusion, health programs, and educational support. Collaborating closely with community leaders, farmer groups, youth networks, and government extension services, NL fosters sustainable economic development and strengthens climate resilience across local communities.

In line with its continued growth and expansion, Nthowa Livelihoods is seeking to recruit three (3) committed volunteers to bolster its programs and organizational development.

Communications Officer (Volunteer)

Location: Malawi (flexible/remote with occasional field visits)

Role Purpose

The Communications Officer will be instrumental in assisting Nthowa Livelihoods in raising awareness about its programs, engaging diverse stakeholders, and effectively documenting success stories. This position is vital for amplifying the organization’s visibility and overall impact through both digital and print media channels.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee and regularly update Nthowa Livelihoods' social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Craft compelling success stories, newsletters, and other organizational content to highlight program impact.
  • Create and design fundamental communication materials, including digital graphics, posters, and presentations.
  • Cultivate media relationships and support external communication efforts.
  • Contribute to the organization's branding and public engagement strategies.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess a degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Own a personal laptop and smartphone.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media management and digital communications.
  • Proficient writing skills, especially for storytelling and reporting.
  • Exhibit creativity and the capacity to generate engaging content.
  • Capable of working autonomously and collaboratively within a small team.
  • A keen interest in community development, youth empowerment, and climate resilience.
