Client Engagement Lead – Growth
BetterGov is seeking a Client Engagement Lead – Growth to drive sustainable growth with both existing and new public-sector clients. This pivotal role sits at the nexus of client interaction, account expansion, opportunity identification, service shaping, and sales support. You will collaborate closely with Directors and delivery teams to pinpoint areas where BetterGov can deliver enhanced value, transform successful project delivery into future opportunities, and cultivate a more consistent and mature growth strategy across the organization.
This is a relationship-driven position. Success hinges on your ability to build trust, comprehend public-sector priorities, engage senior stakeholders effectively, shape credible opportunities, and ensure BetterGov clearly and confidently articulates its capabilities.
You will be accountable for achieving a revenue contribution target through a blend of expanding existing accounts and securing new client engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Engagement and Account Growth
- Partner with Directors to cultivate and expand BetterGov's existing client relationships.
- Assist Directors in developing comprehensive account plans, stakeholder analyses, and strategic growth priorities.
- Identify opportunities for follow-on work, contract extensions, cross-selling, and introducing new service lines.
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior public-sector stakeholders.
- Facilitate regular engagement cadences with key accounts.
- Integrate client insights back into BetterGov to inform future opportunities and service offerings.
- Ensure client discussions are grounded in client needs, evidence of successful delivery, and demonstrable value.
New Client Opportunity Development
- Support BetterGov in building relationships with new public-sector organizations and uncovering opportunities in target markets.
- Identify target organizations, priority sectors, and effective market entry strategies.
- Establish warm introductions to new clients through networks, partnerships, events, and market intelligence.
- Lead early-stage discussions on client challenges and BetterGov's capabilities.
- Qualify opportunities based on BetterGov's strengths, delivery capacity, and strategic objectives.
- Contribute to pursuit planning, proposal development, and opportunity conversion strategies.
- Maintain a clear and realistic pipeline of qualified opportunities.
Proposition Development
- Collaborate with Directors, consultants, and delivery teams to refine BetterGov's work into clear, repeatable service offerings.
- Identify common client challenges emerging from project delivery.
- Package BetterGov's capabilities into compelling and attractive propositions.
- Support the creation of capability one-pagers, case studies, and client-facing materials.
- Work with delivery leads to ensure propositions are credible, deliverable, and evidence-based.
- Assist in shaping offers across areas such as digital transformation, data, cloud, service design, systems implementation, programme delivery, Defence, and local government transformation.
Market and Industry Engagement
- Represent BetterGov externally and enhance the company's visibility in target markets.
- Engage with public-sector networks, industry forums, supplier events, and market briefings.
- Identify relevant events, strategic partnerships, and thought-leadership opportunities.
- Build relationships with partners, framework providers, and ecosystem organizations.
- Share market insights with Directors and delivery teams.
- Position BetterGov as a trusted, pragmatic, and delivery-focused public-sector consultancy.
Sales Enablement
- Enhance BetterGov's processes for identifying, shaping, tracking, and converting new greenfield opportunities.
- Introduce practical disciplines for account planning and opportunity qualification.
- Improve visibility of pipeline, upcoming actions, commercial risks, and ownership.
- Support the consistent utilization of CRM and opportunity tracking systems.
- Empower Directors and consultants to become more adept at identifying growth opportunities.
- Contribute to bid/no-bid decision-making, pursuit planning, and proposition quality.
- Structure how BetterGov translates relationships and delivery outcomes into sustainable growth.
Required Experience:
- Experience in UK public-sector consulting, digital transformation, technology services, managed services, professional services, or a closely related field.
- A demonstrated history of growing client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders in central government, local government, Defence, health, devolved administrations, arm's length bodies (ALBs), or other public-sector organizations.
- A strong understanding of public-sector procurement processes, frameworks, and decision-making dynamics.
- Experience supporting proposals, tenders, client presentations, or opportunity shaping activities.
- The ability to translate complex client challenges into practical and credible service propositions.
- Confidence in working collaboratively with Directors, consultants, and delivery teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial acumen, including proficiency in pipeline management, revenue forecasting, margin awareness, and qualification discipline.
- The ability to operate independently within a growing small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) environment.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in digital, data, cloud, service design, systems implementation, product delivery, or programme transformation.
- Familiarity with GDS-style delivery, service standards, agile delivery methodologies, or multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience within Defence, central government, the Scottish public sector, or local government.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, account planning, and structured pipeline reporting.
- Experience in developing propositions, case studies, thought-leadership content, or market campaigns.
- Experience working within or alongside bid, marketing, partner, or commercial enablement functions.
