World Relief Malawi - Finance Manager

World Relief, an international Christian NGO dedicated to addressing global crises in health, economic development, disaster response, and refugee resettlement through church partnerships, is seeking applications for the position of Finance Manager.

Finance Manager

Position Summary

The Project Finance Manager holds a senior leadership role responsible for the comprehensive financial management and operational oversight of World Relief Malawi (WRM). This individual will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure prudent stewardship of organizational resources, and guide the finance team in delivering high-quality financial services and maintaining compliance. Reporting directly to the Country Director, the Project Finance Manager will collaborate closely with the World Relief Home Office (HO) Finance Team to ensure alignment with organizational policies, procedures, donor requirements, and financial reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Budgeting: Support proposal and annual budget development, input budgets into the ERP system, conduct budget reviews, and assist project managers with budget monitoring.
  2. Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and project-end financial reports for management, donors, partners, and headquarters, and address any financial reporting inquiries.
  3. Financial Management: Oversee daily accounting operations, including cash management, banking, payroll, inventory, receivables, and payables, ensuring adherence to organizational policies, donor requirements, and legal regulations; train staff on financial procedures.
  4. Audit and Compliance: Ensure the timely completion of annual audits and maintain compliance with financial, tax, labor, and other statutory requirements.
  5. Operational Systems: Establish and maintain operational systems consistent with World Relief policies, safeguard organizational assets, and ensure staff compliance with procedures through regular training and guidance.
  6. Strategic Leadership: Contribute to organizational strategy, advise management on financial planning, risk management, and change initiatives, and promote a culture of sound financial stewardship.
  7. Staff Management: Manage staff performance through objective setting, performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, providing professional development opportunities, and recognizing high performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Financial Auditing, or a related field.
  • Possession of a professional accounting certification such as CPA or ACCA is mandatory.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in large-scale grants financial management, with a strong understanding of USG and other donor regulations.
  • Experience working with International Non-Governmental Organizations and the ability to thrive in a multicultural environment.
  • Previous experience with a financial auditing firm is considered an advantage.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, particularly in MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Capability to manage multiple budgets effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills and ability to collaborate effectively with local stakeholders.
  • Effective representation abilities.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented approach.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness in executing responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Proven staff supervision experience.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of technical proposals is a plus.
