OPERATIONS OFFICER

Press Trust, Malawi's premier local charitable institution, is seeking an Operations Officer. This role is based in Lilongwe.

Press Trust operates as a Trust Fund, governed by the Press Trust Reconstruction Act of 1995, and is dedicated to serving the Malawian populace. The Trust manages a diverse portfolio of commercial investments, encompassing both listed and unlisted securities. Its core mission is to invest in productive economic sectors and finance various socio-economic development initiatives across the nation.

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be instrumental in developing robust investment strategies, formulating investment plans, appraising commercial investment projects, overseeing the implementation and monitoring of viable projects, and evaluating investment performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct research to identify viable investment opportunities aligned with the Trust's objectives and national priorities.
2. Assist in crafting sound investment strategies and provide guidance to management and the Board on promising investments.
3. Support the review and preparation of investment policies, alongside medium-term investment plans and budgets for the Trust.
4. Aid in the appraisal of investment proposals, examining their technical, economic, and financial aspects, and presenting recommendations to Management and the Board of Trustees.
5. Facilitate the recruitment process for qualified investment advisors.
6. Analyze investment reports and formulate appropriate recommendations for management and the Board.
7. Develop flexible financial models to assess various investment scenarios.
8. Assist in the execution of approved commercial investment projects.
9. Support the monitoring and evaluation of commercial investments.
10. Prepare and submit regular progress reports on investments to Management and the Board of Trustees.
11. Contribute to the management of the Trust's socio-development projects at all levels.
12. Undertake any other duties as assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS AND KEY COMPETENCIES

1. Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business from an accredited institution is required. Candidates pursuing CFA certification or holding qualifications in related investment fields will be given preference.
2. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of practical experience in commercial investments, project finance, and corporate finance is essential.
3. Skills and Attributes: Proficiency in project and strategic management; a strong understanding of Malawi's economic sectors; comprehensive knowledge of international investment portfolios; adept negotiation skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; strong analytical and computer skills; and a collaborative team player.
