Overview

Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute, a Catholic institution operated by the Salesians Community, is committed to delivering high-quality Technical Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) to underprivileged youth in Malawi. The institute is situated in Area 23, Tsabango, Lilongwe.

To support its ongoing expansion, the institute is seeking qualified individuals to fill the following position:

Automobile Mechanic Instructor (2 positions available)

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (24 months)

Reporting To: Training Officer

Role Summary

The Automobile Mechanic Instructor will be responsible for providing competency-based training in Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Automotive Technology. The successful candidates will equip trainees with the practical and theoretical skills demanded by the industry, ensuring adherence to TEVET standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver training to students on vehicle maintenance, repair, and the troubleshooting of various vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, suspension, and transmissions.
  • Conduct trainee assessments and meticulously maintain records of their performance and progress.
  • Ensure the efficient use and upkeep of tools, equipment, and workshop resources, adhering to occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to trainees.
  • Supervise students during their industrial attachments and practical projects.
  • Contribute to the development of training curricula and support departmental income-generating initiatives.
  • Prepare departmental reports, maintain inventories, and keep accurate maintenance logs.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • TEVET Level 4 Certification in Automobile Mechanics.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, coupled with practical experience in Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), would be considered an advantage.
