The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) Academy of Medical Sciences, through its Center for Clinical and Biological Sciences Research (CCBR) and in collaboration with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Benioff Children's Hospital, is conducting the MTAMBO study. This clinical research study, funded by the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) and the UCSF Resource Allocation Program (RAP), aims to understand new uncomplicated febrile illness in Malawian children and their microbiological causes. The long-term goal is to develop improved diagnostics and predictive markers for serious illness. Following the recruitment of 800 children from Thyolo District Hospital, investigators are seeking to use metagenomics analysis to determine disease etiologies. For this, a Laboratory Technician is sought for a short-term (6 months) contract to actively engage in the metagenomic sequencing component of the study.
